The Christmas season is right around the corner, which means it's the best time for activities to teach giving. Children may be most excited about getting presents during the holidays, but it may also be the ideal venue for teaching the essence of charity.

Unfortunately, parents do not always find the proper way to accomplish this, or realize too late that they could have given a life lesson about giving back because of a certain event that occurred. In my case, I would have forgotten about sharing what we have together with the less fortunate if it weren't for my kid's school activity, which had been gift-giving to native children in our community.

My little woman asked me why we needed to do it, and it made me understand that she had to learn something about giving back. And the very best way of explaining charity to a child is to allow her experience it firsthand.
